Very often we will receive calls for broken grout on floor tile installations. Most people don't realize why this occurs. The reason is movement. The tiles are loose. They've broken their bond to the substrate, usually from poor construction, age, or high foot traffic. Luckily we are able to secure them in place without damaging the tile or removing them.

Rebonding

The process takes two visits, but is very simple and remarkably reliable. First we identify the loose tiles. Then we remove the broken grout and pour a liquid adhesive in the joint. This will seep underneath the tile, and reconnect the tile to the thin set and substrate by filling in the slight cracks where things have separated.

24 hours later the movement should be resolved and the tile ready to be grouted again! We must explain, however, that this only works with thin-set tile installations. There are numerous ways it may have been built poorly, and there is a good chance the adhesive will pool up in voids under the tile. There is no way to see under the tile, but our experience will reveal the likelihood of success during our estimate investigation.
