Silicone caulk is the industry standard for sealing corners where surfaces meet, especially where there may be slight structural movement. Unlike grout, caulk is solid rubber and remains flexible, allowing some movement while maintaining a watertight seal. It also bonds well to non-porous surfaces such as tile, glass, metal, plastic and porcelain.

Recaulking

Chances are you have the wrong kind of caulk, or no caulk at, and thus, possibly a leak. Cracking, peeling, shrinking, discoloration, mold, or gaps are signs that old caulk may need to be replaced. Most recaulking jobs can be completed in an hour or two, depending on the size and condition of the area.

Once the work is finished, proper care is important. Water is the biggest cause of caulk problems, so keeping the area as dry as possible is especially important. Wipe down wet areas after use, use a mild cleaner, and avoid harsh chemicals and abrasive scrubbers. Regular maintenance will help your new caulk last significantly longer.
